SAG Awards 2012

I do love Hollywood award shows, mainly for the red carpet. Most of the time they are kind of disappointing but I still get kind of excited beforehand. At last night’s SAG awards there were a few dresses that I liked and one that I LOVED. Looking at my choice, I seem to have only liked black and white. No big surprise there…

Here are my best dressed:

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture

This is as good as it gets! It’s probably not a choice that will be admired by those people who measure red carpet dresses by what they would wear to a ball but I find it outstanding. I’m really tired of all those drape-y dresses that offer NOTHING new. Zoe’s Givenchy is just uncompromisingly modern and despite it being white, as far away from being ‘bridal’ as possible.

Rose Byrne in Elie Saab Couture

A white sparkly jumpsuit! I mean… Rose took a risk and it totally paid off. She looks elegant and different. Very well done!

Stacey Keibler in custom Marchesa

This surprises you as much as it surprises me. Who would have thought I’d ever think anyone in Marchesa belonged on the best dressed list? And then Stacey? Not that I think she dresses horribly but I do think she tends to be somewhat unremarkable in her choices. (Although her early appearances with Clooney were pretty horrifying!) This may very well be by design in order not to upstage her awards-contender boyfriend. After all, that’s what she was hired to do, right? Anyway, she looks incredible in this dress!

Ashlee Simpson in Jenny Packham

I’m not sure what it is but I just find Ashlee in this dress very glam in a grown-up way. The beading reminds me of a cobweb so she also stays true to her usual goth-y/punk-y style at the same time.

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen

I don’t necessarily think that short(er) dresses work for the SAGs or any of the other major awards shows but I feel that Emma has pulled it of. She’s put together and formal enough, it really doesn’t matter that her dress is not floor-length.

As always, I’m dying to hear what you think of my favourites and who were yours!

Looks I Love – Olivia Palermo

Ladies, in case you’ve been wondering how to make your legs look longer, you’re in luck – Olivia Palermo just happened to give us a masterclass. I will freely admit that I love Olivia’s style. That makes me sound like a 16-year-old fan of reality TV stars but I honestly think she has great style and that she has earned her stripes.

A skinny bell-bottom (I may have just made that term up, it’s somewhat contradictory, isn’t it?) paired with a fitted top that hits just below the hip and heels will do the trick. Personally, I would wear the trousers an inch shorter because I prefer to look like I have feet. Otherwise, this is how it’s done.

Looks I Loved (3/10 – 9/10)

Clemence Poesy in Chanel wins last week’s ‘best dressed’ by a mile. Not only does the dress suit her, the fit is a dream!

I love Dita von Teese‘s refined look. She makes the most simple dresses look exciting with great accessories and the right attitude.

Kirsten Dunst looks radiant in a Chloe dress. Yes, it’s beyond simple but she makes it work.

A dog on a jumper is certainly not the height of timeless chic but I like the fit and how Heidi Klum wears it with a t-shirt layered underneath and the sleeves pushed up.

Looks I Loved (26/09 – 2/10)

1 Charlize Theron (image from justjared.com), 2 Christina Hendricks (image from justjared.com), 3 Christine Baranski (image from redcarpet-fashionawards.com), 4 Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (image from justjared.com), 5 Liv Tyler (image from instyle.co.uk), 6 Ciara (image from redcarpet-fashionawards.com)

Charlize Theron looks comfortable yet stylish arriving at LAX. Her yellow Balenciaga bag livens up her outfit without looking out of place.

Christina Hendricks (in St. John) seems to have her mojo back after a few unlucky choices. This is a brilliant silhouette for her fantastic figure.

Christine Baranski looked simply elegant in Dolce & Gabbana. Sometimes knowing what suits you trumps being experimental.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (in an Isabel Marant vest) schools us all in how to look effortlessly cool and chic.

Liv Tyler in some of my favourite basics (and the corner stones of my own wardrobe): a Breton shirt, cigarette-leg jeans, ballet flats, and a trench.

Ciara in the most beautiful Emilio Pucci FW11 dress attending the Hogan by Karl Lagerfeld presentation. (Although I would have preferred it without the black bodysuit.)
